What this means for marketing planning
For additional context, Evan Shapiro’s July 8, 2026 analysis of the ESHAP Cross-Screen Attention Index offers useful questions for marketers. It covers December 2025 through May 2026 across eight countries, including the United States.
- Look across screens. The index models attention across televisions, phones and computers, adjusting for simultaneous device use. A media plan should consider how its audience moves between those screens.
- Look at the right age group. Shapiro reports that YouTube leads overall U.S. attention in the model, while TikTok leads among people ages 13–34. That makes demographic fit an important question when comparing channels.
- Connect the research to your own results. ESHAP describes the index as a strategic planning resource. For a local business, use it alongside customer insights and campaign results when deciding what to test.
Source note: The ESHAP index models attention; it does not establish advertising response or sales results.
