Google gets 86.2 billion visits a month. YouTube keeps people for 19 minutes a visit. ChatGPT is already the fifth most-visited website in the world. Similarweb’s latest ranking of the world’s most-visited websites is a map of where your customers’ attention goes, and almost every name at the top is a place a local business can show up.
The 10 most-visited websites in the world

One thing to keep in mind: this ranking counts visits to websites, not time spent in apps. Most people use Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and WhatsApp in the app on their phone, so those platforms are even bigger than this list shows.
What the ranking tells a local business
1. Search is still the front door
Google is number one by a mile, and Bing is number eight. When someone needs a dentist, a lawyer, a plumber or a place to eat, they still search. If your Google Business Profile is incomplete, your reviews are thin or you’re not running search ads, you’re missing the busiest door on the internet. For service businesses, Google Local Services Ads put you at the very top and charge by the lead, not the click.
2. Video holds attention longer than anything else
YouTube averages 19 minutes per visit, the longest of any site in the top 20. People don’t skim YouTube; they watch. That’s why a well-made commercial or short video can run on YouTube, streaming TV and social at the same time. See our video production work.
3. Social media is where people spend their downtime
Facebook, Instagram, X, Reddit and TikTok all made the top 10, and that’s before counting the apps. Social media is where people discover new businesses and decide who they trust. If you’re not there, you don’t exist to a big share of your market, and as we covered in our TikTok post, it’s where a growing share of Americans now get their news.
4. AI assistants are the new search engines
ChatGPT is the fifth most-visited website in the world, ahead of X, Reddit and TikTok. Gemini is in the top 15, ahead of LinkedIn and Netflix. People now ask AI who to call and where to go, and the answer depends on what AI can find about you online. 5. Shopping starts online
Amazon draws 2.72 billion visits a month. Even when the purchase happens in your store, the research often happens on a screen first. Your website and listings need to answer questions before customers walk in.
Be where the attention is
You don’t need to be on every site on this list. You need to be on the ones your customers use, with a consistent message, and you need to know which ones are producing calls and sales. That’s the plan we build with our clients: search and local listings so you’re found, video and social so you’re remembered, AI visibility so you’re recommended, and monthly reporting so you know what’s working.
